Catalog description

Course: Non-technical – General Education for Degree Program Advanced Effective Writing will enable students to build on previous writing courses with a focus on academic based writing. Students will be provided with a series of topics that will require them to read, critically analyze, and then through a series of activities create an academic paper that focuses on concepts that range from definition, classification, processes, comparing/contrasting, caus e/effect, analysis, and evaluation. This course will provide students with an overview of the writing process, while maintaining an understanding of the rhetorical situation. Students will be presented with concepts that demonstrate the process used to start, build, refi ne, and proof their work. Students will research topics, and learn how to avoid plagiarism, to build a credible academic document. Prerequisite: ENG122 or ENG115
