Catalog description

An in-depth exploration of formal structures within Western art music. Topics include common structural conventions, visual and aural analysis, intertextual relationships of melody, form, and extramusical concepts, and the uses of formal analysis in education and performance. Appropriate for students with an existing knowledge of music theory whose professional goals require in-depth knowledge of structures within music. Typically Offered: Fall-odd yrs; Spring-even yrs. Prerequisite : MUS 224 Music Theory IV.
