Catalog description

An advanced exploration of documentary filmmaking as both an art form and a tool for communication, persuasion, and social impact. Students will engage with the history, theory, and ethics of documentary while developing hands-on production skills in research, interviewing, cinematography, sound, and editing. Through individual and collaborative projects, students will conceptualize, pitch, and produce short documentaries that demonstrate technical proficiency, compelling storytelling, and critical awareness of the medium's ethical challenges. The course emphasizes creative vision, technical execution, and the ability to situate one's work within broader cultural and political contexts. Typically Offered: Spring.
