Catalog description

Introduction to the effects of culture on who we are and how we think of the world, ourselves, and others. Central themes: What is "culture" and how did humans develop into cultural beings? How does culture operate, and come to shape our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors? How do cultural differences in worldview, self-concept, and moral reasonings contribute to intergroup / international conflict and misunderstanding? Activities and assignments are aimed at confronting, acknowledging, questioning, and challenging the automatic assumptions that result from our own singular cultural experience, and experiencing differences in culture. Meets the Diverse Perspectives requirement for the Psychology major.
