Catalog description

This course provides an exploration of political science through the lens of democratic ideas and practice. Students will examine the origins, evolution, and contemporary challenges of democratic systems, including questions about who is included in “the people”, what are the values of democracy and how they have been changing throughout history. Students will also investigate contemporary challenges facing democratic governance, including the challenges from non-democratic forces, and the impact of economic factors and social inequality, while considering the future of civic engagement and institutional stability in a global context.
