Catalog description

Experiential course that integrates counseling theory into practical application under supervision. WI law requires that school counseling graduates be prepared to counsel students in grades K-12. Students should split the internship hours, evenly between three levels (Elementary, Middle, and High School) with a minimum of 240 of the total hours in "direct service" through counseling individual students and small groups of students and providing classroom curriculum delivery sessions . This field work is combined with some projects and a weekly online synchronous group seminar providing additional supervision and group discussions of topics relevant to the professional practice of school counseling. Times are decided by the instructor, and attendance is required. Students planning to complete in one semester should sign up for 6 credits (3 credits per term). Students planning to complete in two semester should sign up for 3 credits each semester (1.5 credits per term). Instructor consent required.
