Prerequisite(s): ( PHIL 2050 or PHIL 2050H or PHIL 2050G ) and University Advanced Standing Provides an introduction to social and political philosophy through an analysis of its major historical and contemporary representatives. Develops a greater appreciation of the ideas and concepts on which contemporary societies are grounded, as well as an awareness of the problematic or contradictory aspects of these foundations. Covers concepts such as: the social contract and its critics, democracy, political equality, justice, liberalism, communitarianism, as well as historical changes in these concepts.
