Prerequisite(s): University Advanced Standing Surveys the development of the American West from the pre-Columbian era to 1850 and places the West in both a national and North American context. Explores topics such as pre-contact cultures, Indian-European relations, exploration, colonization, conquest, territorial expansion, resource exploitation, as well as an examination of economic, political, social, and cultural developments that created a distinct regional identity. Emphasizes discipline-specific writing.
