Prerequisite(s): (Admission to Professional Education Program or permission of department chair) and University Advanced Standing Prepares pre-service teachers to understand and facilitate achievement for ethnically and linguistically diverse students in the classroom. Covers foundations of multicultural education and instructional methodology for adaptations for ethnically and linguistically diverse students. Emphasizes inclusive, anti-bias classroom strategies for supporting learning and development of diverse students. Encourages examination of personal beliefs and attitudes about diversity. Introduces teachers to the teaching of multilingual learners not only for linguistic development, but for cognitive, academic and social development. Covers both theoretical and applied aspects of second language learning and teaching and provides techniques, activities, strategies and resources to plan instruction for multilingual learners.
