Catalog description

Prerequisite(s): EDCO 6080 and Admission to the Master of Education in School Counseling, M.S program. Introduces the challenges and opportunities of group counseling in K–12 school settings, with emphasis on the unique developmental needs of children and adolescents. Addresses national and state ethical guidelines for group work in schools. Examines how common counseling theories apply to group interventions with K–12 students and explores group developmental stages and processes that influence growth and productivity. Emphasizes skill development for leading student groups in academic, career, and social-emotional domains. Includes approximately 20 hours of laboratory experience wherein each student is provided the opportunity to function in a group.
