Catalog description

Prerequisite(s): ( ARTH 2710 or ARTH 2720G ), ( ENGL 1010 or ENGL 1005 ), and University Advanced Standing Introduces students to the art and architecture of the non-western cultures of East Asia, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Islam, Oceania and the Americas from before the period of Western Colonialism and domination (the course may focus on all or only one of these areas depending on faculty expertise). Examines Non-Western art within its native context, exploring the religious, cultural, political, and philosophical worldviews that shaped its creation, while challenging Western stereotypes and biases about Non-Western cultures.
