STATISTICS AS AN INSTRUMENT IN RESEARCH

Catalog description

The course offers the student the opportunity to develop the abilities and skills to use and interpret the basic concepts of descriptive statistics and probability. It makes emphasis in the relation between statistics and probability, and the process of de cision making based in data collected. The student will be capable to make inferences about the population. In addition, the student analyzes the relationship between two variables. It covers quantitative and qualitative measures, descriptive and statistical inferences, and use of statistical software. Competencies such as scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, technology use and communication are prioritized throughout the course content. The integration of these competencies offers great developmental opportunities in personal and professional contexts. The course is requisite for candidates to the Graduate Program of Environmental Sciences that do not have previous courses in that area.
