Introduction to the founding principles, concepts, historical and contemporary concerns and contributions of Sociology as a scientific discipline and daily practice. Careful overview and critical analysis of the main theoretical frameworks, research methods and ethical underpinnings of sociological inquiry. Emphasis on sociological knowledge as necessary to sound public policy, as well as to effective collective and individual decision making. The course will contribute to students’ scholarly formation by proving a better understanding of their social world and their place in it. The course is competency-based and encourages the responsible use of technology and information.
