This course offers a comprehensive view of the historical development of psychology from the Ancient Greeks to the present, while considering psychology in its philosophical, religious and social context. At the same time, explores the way in which the his torians, mainly in USA, had been using the hegemonic paradigms - positivism and post positivism- to manage the subject matter of psychology. This had created stormy controversial issues in the psychological circles. On the other hand, considers the importan ce of the relations between the psychological knowledge and the necessity to contextualize it to social and cultural events. Furthermore, this course tries to give an answer about the historical reason for the diversities of meaning of the word psychology. Also, the course explores and thinks over the current status of psychology in Puerto Rico and besides, offers an opportunity to students to face up critically the historical development of psychology.
