Catalog description

This course offers the student the opportunity to demonstrate at a basic level their communication competencies and information skills by completing 60 hours of formal training in early care and education covering the growth and development of children whose ages range from birth to 36 months. The five (5) topic areas of the Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification are emphasized. In addition, the student will complete two hundred and forty (240) hours of professional work experience in a center or p rogram with children, as appropriate according to the type of credential requested. The student will evidence the development of their ethics, diversity; and service-oriented skills. Finally, students will demonstrate their development of critical thinking competencies, by preparing their Professional Portfolio where they must gather a series of materials related to their work: education documentation, questionnaires from families, five (5) resources, three (3) reflective testimonies of competencies, and the first part of the professional philosophy testimony. Through this portfolio the student will also demonstrate the development of their scientific and quantitative reasoning skills.
