MEDICAL NUTRITIONAL THERAPY II

Catalog description
This course, the second part of two courses, discusses the use of nutrition as a component in the treatment of disease. Relevant aspects in biochemistry and physiology are integrated into nutritional medical therapy. The course is organized by human body s ystems and disease. Topics covered from a medical nutritional perspective include: acid-base balance, fluids, and electrolytes; renal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, hepatic, pancreatic disease. Special nutrition therapies are discussed. The material wi ll be illustrated with case studies. Objectives: 1. Analize Concepts about the Nutrition in Weight Management. 2. Discuss the Medical Nutrition Therapy in Several Medical Conditions. 3. Analyze the Medical Nutrition Therapy in Pediatrics Specialties. 4. Practice and Perform the A.D.I.M.E. using Case Studies.
