The course is designed to introduce the students about the fundamentals of nutrition, such as the study of foods, nutrients, digestion, absorption, metabolism, and excretion. Problems associated with deficiency and excess are discussed. Students will have the opportunity to evaluate their food intake in terms of caloric content, nutrients and compare it with the established recommendations for individual’s needs. Obj ectives: 1. Recognize the importance of the scientific basis in nutritional concepts.2. Apply nutritional basic concepts in professional and personal life. 3. Analyze current nutritional concepts, recognizing and distinguishing myths and facts regarding nutrition. 4. Recognize the importance of nutrition through the evaluation of personal dietary intake. 5. Identify and implement healthy nutritional practices.
