PROBABILITY STATISTICS I

Catalog description

Math 305 is a basic statistical course. The student will learn and practice the basics of discipline and implement it in the solution of real problems. The student, through a competence-based curriculum, will describe, analyze, present, and interpret data. The student uses specialized techniques for the presentation and analysis of data. It makes emphasis in the relation between statistics and probability, and the process of decision making based on data collected. The theory, sampling methods, summary and data graphic presentation are studied. The measures of central tendency, dispersion and position are used to characterize and interpret information. It makes emphasis in general topics of probability: counting techniques, probability distributions, and central limit theorem. Also, studies correlation and lineal regression, and chi square test to describe the relation between different types of variables. Concepts are developed using responsibly technology, cooperative learning, and problem solving. Competencies such as scientific a nd quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, technology use and communicat ion are prioritized throughout the course content. The integration of these competencies offers great developmental opportunities in personal and professional contexts. The course is requisite for students who intends to be a math teacher in secondary education
