Catalog description

This course focuses on elements of business law, mostly torts (negligence), and property law and the effects thereof on the hospitality and tourism industries. This course helps the student to develop a practical managerial perspective on how the law applies generally to; the hospitality/tourism company’s policies and practices, minimize the negative impact of the legal environment on the company, and foster an attitude of compliance and prevention. The course emphasizes in US Federal law, recognizing that also Puerto Rico law applies to hospitality companies. Students will examine relevant federal and state cases and statutes. The overall objective is to enable students to apply critical reasoning, learn about moral and professional ethics through evaluation and analysis of legal issues and develop strong communication, technology, and research skills.
