PHARMACOLOGY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

Catalog description
This course will familiarize students with the different body systems including their structure, function, diseases, disorders, and treatment. Students will learn drug administration systems, routes, classification, aspects of alternative medicine, and com monly used medication for various disorders. The course also covers safety measures in the administration of medications, specific tasks required when assisting clients in self-administrations of medications, storage, and proper documentation. It emphasizes the development of knowledge and critical thinking skills, through readings and analysis of hypothetical situations, to allow the student to assist the elderly in the self -administration of prescribed pharmacological treatments. Communication skills, information skills, and ethics and diversity skills are also developed.
