INTRODUCTION TO GEOLOGY

Catalog description

The introductory course to geology aimed at students of Bachelor of Science with concentration in Environmental Sciences and other concentrations, introduces the student to topics related to the origin, structure and composition of the Earth, its character istics, and internal dynamic processes such as seismic and tectonic activities, and external processes such as floods and mass movements; all these processes applied to the geology of Puerto Rico in cases where this is pertinent. In the same way, the interrelations between the processes of the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and lithosphere are studied, to give an integrative perspective to the geological processes. Training our students to evaluate environmental problems, knowing how to use the best existing technological tools, which allow us to appropriately attend to the well-being of our planet and its future generations who also deserve to know our Mother Earth healthy. The course consists of 45 hours of lecture and 45 hours of laboratory.
