Catalog description

Three hours of lecture per week. This is an introductory course in electrical power systems. The course emphasizes the modeling of power system components, determination of transmission system parameters, generalized network analysis to characterize a power system in steady-state including load-flows. It also incorporates the use of computer software packages to aid in the analysis and design of power systems. Students will apply quantitative reasoning and modern engineering tools to analyze and design power systems, and use critical thinking to evaluate the performance of power systems encountered in residential and commercial energy distribution systems.
