The pharmacology course includes the fundamental concepts of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapy, and some general concepts of ethnopharmacology, which give the ability to understand and describe the fundamentals of pharmacology, the changes produced by drugs in the body, thei r mechanisms of action, indications, adverse mechanisms, contraindications, and toxicity. Students gain the knowledge necessary to select and prescribe the most commonly used drugs in the dental office with clinical and rational judgment, recognizing the patients' systemic and oral diagnostic profile in the dental practice context. It evaluates the efficacy and side effects at the systemic level and side effects in the oral cavity and identifies the possible drug interactions. The methodology of this course is based on the presentation of conferences that include the resolution of problem situations that promote the analysis of the patient's characteristics, previous illnesses, special conditions, and medications that they consume to achieve the most accurate prescription under scientific evidence.
