Catalog description
Three hours of lecture and seminar/workshop per week. Lecture discussion, seminars, workshops, and laboratory practice on a specific project. Analysis, simulation, and development of a design project. Discussion of alternative designs. Discussion of appropriate standards and realist ic design constraints such as cost, environmentally friendly manufacturing, aesthetics, safety, possible social and political impact, and ethical considerations. Ethics workshops. Integration of hardware and software where appropriate. Seminars and worksho ps on contemporary issues. Teamwork required. Students will apply a wide range of skills including technical, communication, and sound judgment to propose a design that meets the standards and specifications of a realistic engineering project.
