EDUCATION FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

Catalog description

This course provides a historical and legal background to the development of early intervention and special education services; developing the future teacher's information skills. It includes the study of the nature and needs of infants, nursery, and presc hool children with functional diversity, from the perspective of scientific reasoning at a developmental level. The student will demonstrate critical thinking competence by recognizing the typical and atypical development of the child from birth to five (5) years of age, through the process of interviewing educators and parents, demonstrating their competencies of coordination with others and emotional intelligence. In addition, they will investigate those problems faced by families of children with functio nal diversity and high-risk factors. It emphasizes the process of evaluation and diagnosis; teaching techniques, adaptations, and service -oriented intervention strategies. Finally, the future teacher's assistant will demonstrate innovation competence in th e development of assistive materials, at a basic level.
