The course is the first in a six-course series designed to provide supervised experiences where students will develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities to match academic preparation as a movement system expert. This course introduces the fundamentals of medical terminology and linguistic principles in healthcare, with emphasis on medical terminology relevant to the field of physical therapy. Through a combination of hands -on clinical experiences, community-based activities and immersive laboratories, students will develop basic language skills and medical vocabulary in Spanish and English to effectively communicate with patients, caregivers, colleagues, and other h ealthcare professionals. Students will also explore the language nuances essential for effective communication in PT practice. The course encourages a holistic approach to patient care, acknowledging the importance of language and cultural responsiveness in the delivery of quality healthcare services.
