Catalog description

This course focuses on the basic principles of health policy and the influence of the political process as a systematic approach to health care in Puerto Rico, United States and globally. The role of advanced nursing practice in the development of health policies, influencing clinical change and innovation and considering ethical aspects is examined. The course prepares students to assume complex leadership roles in order to advance specialty practice and health. Emphasis in the develop skills, techniques, and approaches to the critical analysis of health policy proposals, health policies, and related issues from the perspective of consumers, nursing, health relat ed professions, and other stakeholders in policy and public forums. It facilitates the development of competencies related to population health, quality and safety, systems-based practice, and personal and professional leadership development. Requires 45 hours of theory.
