BOTANICAL MEDICINE I

Catalog description

This is the first of a four-course series on botanical medicine. These courses are designed to prepare students in the clinical use of medicinal plants in the practice of naturopathic medicine. The traditional, historical, and scientific use of medicinal plants is explained. Students are encouraged to develop an appreciation for medicinal plants. The course begins with an introduction to botanical medicine and pharmacognosy. It then follows with the discussion of Materia Medica, including plants used for support and treatment of gastrointestinal, hepatic, and lymphatic conditions. A brief introduction to alterative plants is also given.
