Catalog description
The students will learn about Clinical Biochemistry procedures and their clinical importance in medicine, with special attention in the following areas: electrolytes, base acid balance, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, lipoproteins, diseases, enzymes, steroids, liver function, iron function, hemoglobin, and porphyrins. Monitoring conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, thyroid, kidney function, pregnancy and drugs will be presented in this course. The importance of quality assurance, methods evaluation, and the est ablishment of benchmarks will be discussed. The student will have the opportunity to conduct class-related practice labs.
