This course offers a comprehensive exploration of site analysis and landscape systems, equipping students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for context-sensitive design. Drawing from foundational principles by James LaGro Jr., Ian McHarg’s Design with Nature, and cutting -edge research in landscape ecology and systems thinking, students examine the interplay between natural processes, human activities, and cultural values. Through interactive lectures, workshops, and studio projects, they develop proficiency in ecological assessment, site analysis techniques, and participatory design strategies, preparing them to tackle complex design challenges with creativity, resilience, and empathy. The course ultimately aims to cultivate innovative practitioners capable of harmonizing human development with ecological systems in line with McHarg’s visionary approach.
