This course explores the meaning of multicultural education and how to understand and respond to the issues and challenges involved for learners, educators, and education stakeholders. Students will reflect on definitions of power and privilege, critique u nderstandings of difference, and examine the multi -faceted ways in which multicultural education can be enacted in pedagogy, curriculum, and educational organizations. They will also examine the intersections between race, class, gender, sexuality, language, and citizenship status and assess their impact on teaching and learning. The course will consist of multiple opportunities for critical self-reflection and to engage with other learners in analyzing and raising questions about the topics discussed.
