VETERINARY ANESTHESIA

Catalog description

The course provides the basis for participants to develop the ability to discuss the proposal of anesthetic management and pain management plans in veterinary patients. These bases largely consist of the application of physiology principles (mainly, but not exclusive ly, associated with the cardiovascular and respiratory systems) and pharmacology. Anesthesia and associated concepts are defined and discussed, including indications for their implementation. The equipment used for the administration of anesthesia is intro duced, as well as vital signs monitors and related techniques. Through guided exercises under appropriate supervision, students will participate in basic anesthetic procedures including: patient evaluation, premedication, peripheral vein catheterization, general anesthesia induction, anesthetic depth monitoring, basic cardiovascular and respiratory parameters, orotracheal intubation, general anesthesia maintenance , administration of fluid therapy, provision of ventilation through intermittent positive pres sure, anesthetic recovery and registration of information in a medical record. The pathophysiology of common clinical conditions will be discussed, emphasizing considerations for anesthetic management.
