PROFESSIONAL LEGISLATION AND FORENSIC DENTISTRY

Catalog description

This course reviews Puerto Rico’s medical/dental laws and regulations that govern the dental profession, the issues inherent to the civil liability/tort regime, and those relating to the patient’s safety and the right to health. In this course students acquire the knowledge pertaining to the general medical responsibility, which will serve as a foundation for their professional work, providing the tools for the analysis and resolution of situations from the legal perspective for dentistry. In addition, students recognize the dentist as the expert figure in malpractice cases. Concerning the area of forensic dentistry, this course reviews basic concepts of forensic dentistry necessary to serve of assistance to local, state, and federal authorities in the identification of individuals in, for example, murder investigations, abuse cases, possible criminal suspects, and missing persons.
