ANIMALS AS CO-THERAPISTS

Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the importance of human -animal relationships and Animal -Assisted Interventions (AAI). We will examine the relationships and interactions that have occurred and are occurring between humans and animals, especially with our companion animals. We will discuss and analyze the physical, emotional, and psychological benefits generated through these relationships, their ability to promote and develop wellbeing, resilience, kindness, empathy, and increase healthy social interaction s. Discuss and analyze the history and development of the human animal bond, and the diverse AAI framed in an interdisciplinary approach but focalizing how to integrate non -human animals as co therapist in our counseling interventions with participants. We will also discuss how companion animals of our participants can become an integral part of our work and how they can enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of our participants.
