Catalog description
The course covers the basic principles and applications of the thermodynamics of chemical systems. The calculations of magnitudes and thermodynamic functions in different processes are studied using the Principles and Laws of Thermodynamics. The concepts o f temperature, work, heat, enthalpy, entropy, chemical equilibrium and ideal and real systems in the gaseous and condensed phases are studied. This course also analyzes chemical reactions from the perspective of thermodynamics, establishing considerations about the energy balance, their spontaneity and the extent to which they occur. Studies of homogeneous and heterogeneous systems in which phase changes of substances take place are also part of the core of this course. The development of information commun ication and proper management of scientific data is facilitated. The students will be trained in the correct use of safety rules in the laboratory and teamwork. In this course, theory is complemented by eminently practical laboratories whose purpose is to provide the chemical professional with sufficient experimental knowledge to allow them to know what is possible to measure, in addition to interpreting chemical data with rigor and scientific criteria and predicting certain properties. The course consists of 45 hours of lectures and 90 hours of laboratory.
