Catalog description

This foundational course introduces students to key concepts in modern biology, including the chemical basis of life, cell structure and function, metabolism, genetics, and molecular biology. Through integrated lectures and laboratory experiences, students explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying life processes and inheritance. Emphasis is placed on the development of scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and effective communication in biological contexts. Topics include biomolecules, cell theory, membrane transport, mitosis and meiosis, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, classical and molecular genetics, gene expression, and chromosomal inheritance. Laboratory sessions reinforce theoretical concepts through hands-on activities such as microscopy, biochemical tests, and genetic analysis.
