Catalog description
The role of social and cultural values in the definition of deviant behavior and the scientific study of deviance are discussed. Emphasis is given to the historical development of the study of social deviance and its related theories, as well as the influence of traditional and modern society on deviant behavior. The process that has led to the sociology of deviance not being a prevalent topic in sociology, and how it has become a topic of other disciplines, is recognized and discussed.
