This course presents the advanced science and clinical pharmacology that affects the practice of speech and language pathology. Emphasis will be placed on the clinical use and understanding of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and the possible positive an d negative results of medications. During the course, conferences, videos and practical learning activities will be explored. The general principles of action against drugs, particularly in relation to the communicative function will be discussed. The classes of drugs used in clinical practice will be examined with emphasis on activity, mode of action, side effects, toxicity and drug interactions. Case studies will be presented in the fields of speech pathology and audiology.
