Catalog description

In this course the student is introduced to the basic concepts of neonatal development, newborn assessment, and different pathologies, stimulating critical thinking. It also provides basic knowledge in the management, treatment, and dangers in the application of different th erapeutic modalities in pediatric respiratory care. Through scientific reasoning, decisions will be made about the different changes in ventilatory parameters, based on pulmonary mechanics and arterial gases in neonatal and pediatric patients. Through the initiation and modification of therapeutic processes, the student will initiate and discontinue a continuous ventilation patient. Communicate results of arterial gases, using quantitative reasoning for decision making in ventilator changes and oxygenation of the patient. The student will apply the procedures for handling materials and life support equipment. In addition, it will properly select the appropriate protective equipment to enter the neonatal and pediatric intensive units. He will be able to identify the diagnosis, procedures and evaluation of the handling of patient information.
