Catalog description

This is the first of a 4-course series focused on applying research to the field of physical therapy. Early in the course, emphasis will be placed on the formulation of the PICO (Patient, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome) question and the development of the student's ability to identify quality articles. They will also be trained in selecting the right databases, discovering the most pertinent arti cles within them, and utilizing appropriate keywords to effectively engage with the database algorithms. As the course progresses, students will hone their ability to identify critical gaps and opportunities within the field, using diverse research methods to define a problem. Guided by mentors, students will delve into research domains spanning prevention, wellness, rehabilitation, movement optimization, community projects, clinical quality improvement, learning health systems, and basic science. By the en d of this course, students will have a well -defined research problem and a profound understanding of the existing body of knowledge supporting their research, with a clear vision of its practical relevance to physical therapy practice.
