Catalog description

The Physics for Scientists (Biologists and Chemists) course provides students with the essential knowledge to explain the world around them. Students will discover laws, theories and principles that have a broad connection to the disciplines of Biology and Chemistry and will recognize the broad scope of the Physical Sciences and their applications. Topics will be explained in a way to strengthen scientific reasoning by integrating an inductive - deductive format. Students will make correct use of the language of the discipline, will perform cooperative experiments in the laboratory where they will manipulate instruments, programs and will report in a clear and precise way. The course contains concepts, quantities and physical laws to interpret and describe the mechanical motion of bodies (including oscillations) from the analysis of their interactions, as well as their thermal exchanges, all presented with a mathematical depth level of differential variations: derivatives and integrals. The course consists of 45 hours of lecture and 45 hours of laboratory.
