ADVANCED NURSING MANAGEMENT FOR VULNERABLE POPULATIONS

Catalog description

During this course, students will apply and develop instruments, guides, and practice standards according to the area of interest to work with vulnerable populations. The student selects one of the following vulnerable populations: women, neonates, pediatrics, psychiatrics, and adults and the elderly to integrate advanced nursing knowledge and identify areas of opportunity in interventions with this population. The student is exposed to evaluate the health management of populations that are below the povert y level, with chronic or infectious conditions, pregnancies at risk, drug dependence, mental illness or abuse, among others, and will apply nursing models through supervised and independent learning. The doctoral student develops evidence -based treatment guidelines and nursing interventions to provide health care to the selected population. The practice in this course allows, together with the director of the program or academic advisor, to select the practice scenarios where the management of the needs of the vulnerable population is exposed. You will be assigned a preceptor who will supervise your performance in your place of practice and advise you in relation to the problem to be worked on and the specific interventions or treatments to be worked on guided by nursing models. It facilitates the development of competencies related to advanced knowledge in the science o f nursing, prevention and health promotion, quality and safety improvement, advanced care for vulnerable groups, and leadership and professionalism. In this course the student is expected to complete 180 hours of supervised practice.
