Catalog description

The student will learn to recognize a medical emergency. The course will cover medical emergency presentations and medical emergencies by organ system. The student will be able to make appropriate referrals and gain knowledge of treatment of acute ailments in hospitals, emergency room and intensive and coronary care units. It is important that the doctor in naturopathy have the ability to recognize a true medical emergency and take urgent care decisions in a timely matter. Students will be provided with adv ice for appropriate referral to emergency departments, intensive care units and refer to medical specialists such as cardiologist, pulmonologist and surgeons. Different factors for recognizing emergency conditions and responding in a timely matter will be covered, including taking a concise medical history, taking into account classic emergency sign and symptoms of different conditions. This course covers the essential knowledge a primary care physician should have in managing medical emergencies.
