THEORY OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS (IT)

Catalog description

This course will introduce students to information storage and retrieval (ISR) theories, models, and systems. These will include the data / information / knowledge representation models and user needs / queries; the models and mechanisms for establishing, filtering and personalizing the relevance of the information; and models and measures for evaluating the performance of the ISR system. This course provides students with an overview that emphasizes the user's perspective in analyzing information needs and preferences, including the necessary foundations for studying and understanding information management processes at the enterprise level and in social context.
