The interdisciplinary perspective of historical, philosophical, cultural and social foundations, taking as a point of departure fundamental educational debates and problems, which have directed changes throughout time. It provides a reference (interpretative, normative, critical, and creative) in order to link educational foundatio ns to practice. Educational philosophies (traditional, modern, and contemporary) are compared and analyzed. Implications and applicability of philosophical theories on problems and controversies of present education are viewed. Philosophical principles that guide the educational system in Puerto Rico, in terms of philosophy and policy are assessed.
