Catalog description

The purpose of this class is to train veterinary students in the surgical approach and techniques of common surgical conditions. The laboratory course will cover soft tissue and orthopedic procedures which are routinely performed in private veterinary practice and will assist the students in understanding the advanced procedures or complications associated with various surgical techniques as discussed in the surgery class. The laboratory sessions are designed to allow for close interaction of the student an d the clinician and enhance the surgical experience and confidence level of the students before entering their clinical year. The course consists of 12 total lab sessions (4 hours each) - 5 orthopedic and 7 soft tissues, including cadaveric and simulation models, and live animals for the ovariohysterectomy and castration lab.
