MENTAL ISSUES IN ORAL HEALTH

People with mental illness, particularly severe mental illness, are at greater risk of oral health problems. This course explains the psychological conditions that relate to dental practice and the patient/dentist relationship in the dental office. The factors associated with fear, distress and anxiety that are generated in dental care are identified by the students, taking into account the psychosocial value of the mouth and teeth and their relation ship to oral health and human psychism. Cases of patients with special needs are studied in this course and oral pathologies with etiologies associated to emotional factors.
