Catalog description

Engineering principles and specifications for designing wood structural members. Topics include design of beams, columns, roof diaphragms, and shear walls. Specifications for designing wood structural connections using dowels, such as nails, bolts and lag -screws. Description of physical and structural characteristics of solid lumber and other wood products, such as plywood, laminated veneer lumber, parallel strand lumber, and composite wood I -joists. Students will develop the quantitative reasoning, innovation and design of infrastructure skills requir ed to design wood structures.
