The Biochemistry I course focuses on providing the student with an overview of the nature and functions of the main biomolecules in the human body: amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids, as well as establishing the chemical, molecular and genetics of biological processes. The student goes into the development of scientific reasoning and critical thinking in biochemistry in its importance in biology, biotechnology, molecular cell biology and food science, as well as its applicability in the world around us. The student develops information skills and the use of technological equipment and computer programs in molecular cell biology for the search and ethical management of theoretical data for t he analysis of enzymatic reactions, proteins and nucleic acid fragments. The student is trained in the development of team science skills and food safety. The main objective of the course is the knowledge of the structure and behavior of biological molecul es, which are carbon compounds that form the various parts of the cell and carry out the chemical reactions that allow it to grow, feed, reproduce, use and store energy. Discussion of the metabolic pathways for degradation and biosynthesis of the major classes of biological molecules is included. The bioenergetic aspects of metabolism are studied in the context of catabolism and anabolism.
