GENERAL ECOLOGY

Catalog description

It provides a comprehensive introduction to Ecology, the study of the relationship between organisms and their biotic and abiotic environments. This course addresses the applied and theoretical questions central to contemporary ecology at the level of the individual, population, community and ecosystems, achieved through quantitative reasoning and the scientific method. The laboratory emphasizes terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, sampling techniques, tables of life and population growth, diversity and simi larity between communities. In laboratory experiences in the field, sampling techniques are used, and the data obtained are analyzed. Additional emphasis is given to Puerto Rico's ecological habitats and contemporary issues of environmental impact based on equity values in favor of our diversity in local and global conservation biology. The course consists of 45 hours of lecture s and 45 hours of laboratory.
